This summers Mad4Music was a hit with the kids and with all of us at the studio. We were amazed at the talent and in some cases natural ability that walked through our doors on Monday morning. I had only been working at Ivy Arch Studios for little over a week when I was asked to help teach a six piece band some songs of their choosing. As soon as I closed the door to the rehearsal room they were zooming ahead with the first song, working as if they had been working together for years! As the week went by it was getting harder and harder to tear both bands away from their work as they would practically inhale their lunch and be back in the rooms practising or writing new parts for original songs. By the time of the gig they had five original songs written between both bands and 3 cover songs learnt, which is no mean feat in a week, especially when you consider that some of the kids had never played an instrument before Monday morning.

The gig (preview here)was hosted at the local community centre, The Sidney Walter Centre, and went down great. The Bands both thoroughly enjoyed it as did the parents and all of us at the studios.

To follow this years success there will be more Mad4Music courses around christmas (see website for more info), but in the mean time there will be some exciting new jam sessions hosted at Ivy Arch Studios in conjunction with Rockschools UK. Ivy Arch has been running these Music Courses for Kids & Teenagers since last year, and they are getting ever more popular.

Like a Rock school, MAD4MUSIC gives you a weeks intensive Rock Music Course, with a gig at the end of it.

You will have the chance to play with, and be taught by professional musicians, who have been touring, gigging, recording and generally rocking it up for many years!

Guitar (rhythm & lead) Bass, Drums, Keys & Vocals are all covered during the morning sessions.

Songwriting, Arranging, Recording, Musicianship & Performance are covered each afternoon.

This is an intensive music course for those who want to get to the next level quickly.

You will be encouraged and inspired.

Prepare to play, listen, and improve ALOT!

Hiya everyone,It’s my last day here at Ivy Arch and I can honestly say I don’t want to leave at all, its just such a pleasant place to be!Now I have met all the people that work here I can say they are all absolutely lovely and I love every one of them! They are really supportive and have taught me a lot whilst I have been here. I know the proper way of setting up all the rooms and turning them off; also have helped with the advertising side of things by taking flyers to lick music.I have also been offered to do the Mad 4 Music course, which is a course that goes on for a week in the summer for budding musicians to higher their abilities. For 5 days you get £100 worth of tuition each day for Bass, Drums, Guitar or Keyboards and Vocals and in the afternoon there are intensive song writing sessions where kids write songs or learn a cover or both. On the Friday, there is a gig for all the bands that have been formed to perform in front of their parents and anyone that you want to come along too. I can’t wait its going to be amazing!Thanks for reading,Katy x

Katy’s Work Experience BlogHey Guys!My name is Katy from Worthing High School and for my work experience I have managed to grab a spot at Ivy Arch Studios. It hasn’t fell short of my expectations in any way, I learned so much in just my first day. Learning how to use lots of the specialist equipment was a great experience and I can’t wait to hopefully give some of it a go. There is so much going on here in the holidays, some things that I already knew about and some that I didn’t. For instance, Mad 4 Music, I knew about it but I didn’t really know how much goes on, a good 6 hours of tuition! It’s a great environment to be in, the people areal really lovely that I’ve met so far, and have really made me feel welcome for my short time that I will be here.Thanks for reading!Katy x

Our studios are open from 10am - 11pm every day.

Mad4Music - 6th-10th April & 13th-17th April :

Our music courses for 12-16year olds will be run again during the Easter Holidays.

This very comprehensive course is like Rockschool, and is offered to kids who already have an ability in an instrument or vocals.

Masterclasses in the morning, drums, bass, guitar, keys, vox, and songwriting sessions in the afternoon. The group will write their own songs and perform in a gig on the last day.
